Piece of Earth - Lapidary Jewelry
Pendants - Page 3

You may notice a theme here...I really like picking up local rock to use in my hobby...and this is for a couple of reason. We have a great province here - lot's of opportunity to travel around to different types of soils and rocks.
We also have Washington and Oregon that are close by and they add another couple of different stratospheres to rock hound in,
If I have one regret in life...it's that I wish I paid more attention in Geology class...lol.

BC Serpentine.
Serpentine can be found all over the world but in my predujiced opinion the best is found in BC. This piece has olive green, grey and black for coloring and a great medium lustre and weight.
Cyroprase
Another purchased stone. I managed to get 4 cuts from the raw rock and this is the last one. Translucent bright green and white with a not quite perfectly smooth surface that polished up very shiny make it a very unique piece.
Fraser River Agate
Many thanks to Number 3, a Rockhounder that I know at work. He is constantly going out and bringing back handfulls of these. I make then into pendants for him and his honey and then keep some for myself. It is a great barter arangement.
Picture Jasper
I bought a block of this originally at a the Fraser Valley Rock show 3 years ago and then whe were out rock hounding near Hope I came across another piece of it. I am not really sure whick raw piece this came off of because they are virtually identical.
BC Sandstone
Gray and black contrasting sedimentary layers with a band of yellow about mid rock turned out to be a nice pendant. Sandstone does not always polish well but this one came out medium to high in shine. The Coquihalla River has this typ of rock in abundanace.
Mahogonay Obsidian
Nice compact barrel design and a very high lustre. Good coloring with a medium orangy red and lots of black for a complicated yet not overpowering pattern. I like this volcanic glass mounted on silver for a dramatic contrast.
More Crazy Lace Agate.
What can I say about this rock that I have not already said...good coloring, interesting natural paterns and a very high lustre make it a favorite.
